Roofs
Cedar shake and shingle.Silver and even, never black.
Cedar is meant to age. The question is whether it goes an even silver and lasts, or turns black on the shaded side, splits and rots early. Our members' cedar ages the way the architect imagined it, for its full life.

What you might be seeing
Black or dark gray patches
Growth taking hold, usually on the shaded side.
Fuzzy, furred wood
The surface fibers breaking down and holding water.
Some faces silver, some black
Sun and shade aging the house at different rates.
Ten, twenty, thirty years from now
In ten years, a member's cedar is an even silver. In twenty, the shakes are still sound and shedding water. In thirty, it is the same cedar, not a re-roof.
That is the difference between a surface that looks good the day after and one that lasts. It is easier to keep a house right than to bring one back.
What you never think about again
Off your list
It is on the schedule, every season. You never call, compare or manage anyone, and you never need to be home.
Already ready
Guests this weekend, a holiday, a listing photo. The house is already right, so there is nothing to get ready.
How membership works
The assessment
Kalen Yeager, our founder, walks the property with you, then assesses every surface on his own. It is complimentary.
The plan
Four Season Membership: four visits a year, one each season, built around how your house weathers. Some homes want more.
The record
Every visit is photographed and kept in one record of the house, so wear reads as a trend and repairs are caught while they are small.
Questions
Why is my cedar shake turning black?
Moisture and growth, worst where the house is shaded. On a membership the cedar ages evenly instead.
Is my cedar ruined?
Usually not. Kalen will tell you what he sees at the assessment, and what it can look like a year from now.
